On Alumni Day, Sunday, June 28th, 11 SLC Alumni and friends took to the Mainside docks for the 2019 Swimathon.
First, the swimmers swam two laps to pass their deep-water test. After that, they did it for fun, to re-live childhood memories of swimming in the Lake, to get great exercise in a beautiful setting and to challenge themselves. Most importantly, they swam to raise money for SLC’s historic mission and to fundraise for the SLC Scholarship Endowment Fund. The 11 swimmers swam a combined 1,353 laps (over 20 miles) and raised, to date, over $10,000, with money still coming in.
Their dedication to SLC, their commitment to not quitting before reaching their personal goals, both the laps and fundraising, was inspiring and admirable. Please join us in celebrating Ilana Atwater, Mike Berk, Ali Emmels, Jay Greenbaum, Susie Jainchill, Lisa Mark, Jared Tyler, Charlie Wasserman, Jonny Wasserman, Marty Zalin, and Barbara Zbar. Their incredible efforts will ensure future campers for generations to come, and thanks to them, even more campers will get to enjoy the magic of SLC.
Jay Greenbaum’s daughter, one of five Greenbaum girls who attended SLC, said this after Jay completed his swim and raised a ton of money, “I really believe camp shaped our lives and helped us develop into the people we are today – so if this fundraiser helps just one kid to have that same experience, it’s worth it.”
