This is a good old-fashioned climb with several fantastic views and points of interest along the way. Provides choice views of Crow’s Nest and Storm King Mountain on the other side of the Hudson River.  Maximum hiking time is 5 hours\, including time for lunch.  You must be able to walk 20 minutes up an incline without getting short of breath in order to choose this hike. \nBull Hill/Mt. Taurus:  This hike is filled with history\, ruins\, and panoramic views of the Hudson Valley and beyond. Difficulty level is moderate to challenging\, including some steep inclines.  Maximum hiking time is 5.5 hours\, including time for lunch.  You must be able to walk 20 minutes without getting short of breath in order to choose this hike.  \nHinterlands:  Difficulty level is moderate.  Relatively short distance\, although mostly inclines. Maximum hiking time is 2.5 hours\, including time for lunch. \nCornish/Northgate Ruins:  Explore our historic Northgate ruins.  Difficulty level ranges from rustic\, unleveled roads to mild inclines. This is also a great option for families with children. Maximum hiking time is 3 hours\, including time for lunch. \nPlease Remember:\n\nAll participants must register in advance (see the form below). If you have not registered in advance\, you will not be allowed to enter Camp.\nEach family must fill out their own registration form. The tasting will focus on whiskies that invoke our camp spirit\, while giving an overview of various whiskey styles and production methods. \nWe’ll begin at 1pm where guests are welcome to enjoy a feature cocktail from the bartenders at Fort Hamilton\, alongside some light pairing bites. Later\, Ted will lead the tasting\, lending knowledge and insights that he’s gained through his years as a whiskey editor and taster. Some surprise pours will be featured\, and snacks will be provided. \nThe cost is $125 per person. Ages 21+.  All levels of experience are welcome. The spectacular fall foliage is due\, in part\, to the region’s diverse species of trees. \nFor Hike Day participants\, we will provide a light breakfast\, snacks\, and a choice of four guided hikes. \nThe fee for Family Hike Day is $25 for SLC Alumni Association Members and $30 for non-members. ($100/$120 for families of 4 or more).  All proceeds will benefit Surprise Lake Camp. \n\n\n\nSchedule\n9:00 – 9:45am: Check-in and breakfast\n10:00am SHARP: Hikes begin \nHike Choices:\nModified Nimham/Breakneck Ridge:  Difficulty Level is challenging.  This is for very hardy hikers who have hiked Breakneck (or similar) before.  *Please note we expect this hike to take 5+ hours.  The path starts on the Mainside ballfield to 1st Outpost to Ranger Barry Trail (red trail markers) to a left onto the Breakneck Ridge Trail (white trail markers). A little before  Bald Spot\, we make a right turn onto an old Jeep road.  Then we make a left onto the Wilkinson Memorial Trail (yellow trail markers). This trail goes between the Breakneck Ridge Trail and Sugarloaf. Next we make a left onto the Nimham Trail (green trail markers). This new trail leads to the first peak of Breakneck  by an easy series of steps. Then left onto the Breakneck Ridge Trail. This is the challenging part.  We will climb the 2nd and 3rd peaks. Some parts have an easier choice of trails. Then a right onto the Undercliff Trail (yellow trail markers)  This will bring us down to a left on the Cornish Trail (blue trail markers) and then up to Teenside and past the Eddie Cantor Theater to the Main Building. \nBald Spot:A popular hike among summer campers\, this hike gives you a birds’ eye view of camp.  If it’s quiet enough and you are loud enough\, you can call down to people in camp and hear them call back!  The rocky “bald spot” is also a great place to have lunch\, take photos\, and enjoy the view.  This is an ideal hike for beginners\, with mild inclines most of the way up.   \nHinterlands:  Another popular hike among summer campers\, this is a relatively short hike with significant inclines most of the way up.  Starting from the Highlands Unit and going up past camp’s high ropes course\, this mostly-shaded path continues uphill for about 15-20 minutes.  Reaching the “top of the rock” is the perfect time to enjoy picturesque views\, take memorable photos\, and have lunch. \nCornish Discovery:  Learn about and visit our historic Northgate ruins led by local expert\, Thom Johnson. Thom will share images of the original Cornish estate and impart his knowledge about its fascinating history and connection to camp.  Thom will also show participants recent developments and clean-up efforts\, and the new informational placards in the area.  Difficulty level ranges from rustic\, unleveled roads to mild inclines. \nPlease Remember \n\n\n\nChildren under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.\nA brown-bag lunch and snacks are strongly suggested.\nAll participants must bring an ample supply of water and canteens/water bottles.\nDress in layers. Once all boxes have been filled in\, the grid is labeled 0 through 9 in random order along the horizontal and vertical axis. These numbers correspond to score tallies for the two teams in the game. At the end of each quarter of the game\, whichever box corresponds to the trailing digit of the scores for each team wins a portion of the pot in the pool. For example\, at the end of the first half for the 1969 Super Bowl\, the New York Jets led the Baltimore Colts 7-0. The SLC Alumni Association will retain fifty percent of the cash pool\, which will be used to benefit Surprise Lake Camp.  The remaining money will go to the winners\, as follows: \nEnd of game winner: $200**\n1st half winner: $125\n1st quarter winner: $87.50\n3rd quarter winner: $87.50 \n**Please note that if the game goes to overtime\, the 4th quarter winner and the end of game winner will split the $200 prize ($100 each). \nClick here to view the 2025 Super Bowl Squares Grid for the 2nd pool. \nHow It Works: \nPeople participate by purchasing boxes on a 10 x 10 grid (boxes selected at random/we will not be honoring specific requests). Once you sign up and pay (below)\, your name will be written on a box in the grid. Once all boxes have been filled in\, the grid is labeled 0 through 9 in random order along the horizontal and vertical axis. These numbers correspond to score tallies for the two teams in the game. At the end of each quarter of the game\, whichever box corresponds to the trailing digit of the scores for each team wins a portion of the pot in the pool. For example\, at the end of the first half for the 1969 Super Bowl\, the New York Jets led the Baltimore Colts 7-0.
