Choose one or all at this inaugural Spring event at SLC!\nThis new event combines elements of Spring Hike Day\, our annual Kickball Tournament\, and more!\nSunday\, May 18 9am-3pm\nThe cost for Summits\, Sports\, & S’mores is $25 for SLC Alumni Association Members and $30 for non-members. \n($100/$120 for families of 4 or more) All proceeds will benefit Surprise Lake Camp. \nA light breakfast and s’mores will be provided.  Please bring your own bagged lunch/picnic food. \nIf you choose to hike\, please arrive no later than 9:45am.  Hikes will begin promptly at 10am. \nSchedule\n9:00am: Check-in begins.  A light breakfast will be available until 10am. \n10:00am: SHARP: Hikes begin \n10:15am:  Beach Volleyball\, Softball\, Tetherball\, Pickleball\, Basketball\, Lawn Games\, Sandcastle Building (other activities may become available pending renovations/additions being done at camp) \n11:15am:  Optional rotation to another activity \n12:15pm:  Lunch by the Lake \n1:00pm:  Kickball Tournament \n2:00pm: Campfire\, Singing\, & S’mores \n3:00pm: Nestling & Departure \nHike Choices:\nBreakneck Overlook:  This hike has the glory of climbing Breakneck Ridge (this is the 4th peak of Breakneck) without actually climbing up the rock face.  We will take a scenic walk in the woods through Cornish\, climbing up the mountain towards this overlook\, loop around to Hudson Overlook\, and then come back down into camp.  Approximate time hiking is 3 hours.  You must be able to walk 20 minutes up an incline without getting short of breath in order to choose this hike.  \nHinterlands:  Difficulty level is moderate.  Relatively short distance\, although mostly inclines.  Great option for families with children. \nCornish/Northgate Ruins:  Explore the hauntingly beautiful collection of ruins called Northgate (or the Cornish Estate).  Difficulty level ranges from rustic\, unleveled roads to mild inclines. This is also a great option for families with children. \nPlease Remember:\n\nAll participants must register in advance (see the form below). If you have not registered in advance\, you will not be allowed to enter Camp.\nEach family must fill out their own registration form. You may not register for another family.\nChildren under 16 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.\nBuildings at Camp will be closed except for bathrooms and dining hall in the Main Building.\nNo guests are permitted on Teenside (except Cornish hikers)\nSorry\, NO PETS are allowed at Camp.\nPlease bring your own lunch\, snacks\, and drinks.\nDress in layers. The spectacular fall foliage is due\, in part\, to the region’s diverse species of trees. \nFor Hike Day participants\, we will provide a light breakfast\, snacks\, and a choice of four guided hikes. \nThe fee for Family Hike Day is $25 for SLC Alumni Association Members and $30 for non-members. ($100/$120 for families of 4 or more).  All proceeds will benefit Surprise Lake Camp. \n\n\n\nSchedule\n9:00 – 9:45am: Check-in and breakfast\n10:00am SHARP: Hikes begin \nHike Choices:\nBeacon Firetower:  Difficulty Level is challenging\, including several steep inclines. The Firetower has a range of view of approximate 75 Miles or greater in clear weather and has been a treasured hiking destination for years.  You MUST be able to hike up a steep hill for 20 minutes without getting out of breath. If you cannot do this\, please choose a less strenuous option. \nBald Spot:  A popular hike among summer campers\, this hike gives you a birds’ eye view of camp.  If it’s quiet enough and you are loud enough\, you can call down to people in camp and hear them call back!  The rocky “bald spot” is also a great place to have lunch\, take photos\, and enjoy the view.  This is an ideal hike for beginners\, with mild inclines most of the way up.   \nHinterlands:  Another popular hike among summer campers\, this is a relatively short hike with significant inclines most of the way up.  Starting from the Highlands Unit and going up past camp’s high ropes course\, this mostly-shaded path continues uphill for about 15-20 minutes.  Reaching the “top of the rock” is the perfect time to enjoy picturesque views\, take memorable photos\, and have lunch. \nCornish Discovery:  Learn about and visit our historic Northgate ruins led by local expert\, Thom Johnson. Thom will share images of the original Cornish estate and impart his knowledge about its fascinating history and connection to camp.  Thom will also show participants recent developments and clean-up efforts\, and the new informational placards in the area.  Difficulty level ranges from rustic\, unleveled roads to mild inclines. \nPlease Remember \n\n\n\nChildren under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.\nA brown-bag lunch and snacks are strongly suggested.\nAll participants must bring an ample supply of water and canteens/water bottles.\nDress in layers.
