SUMMARY:2023 Spring Shabbat Service at Surprise Lake Camp
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, May 20\, 2023\n10:00am\n(please plan to arrive by 9:30am)\nSurprise Lake Camp\, Cold Spring\, NY \nSpring Shabbat is the perfect opportunity for families to see what a Saturday morning service at camp is like\, for campers and alumni to see their friends\, and for all of us to sing and celebrate being together again at camp!!! \nWe hope you’ll join us and share in the special Jewish spirit that we enjoy at SLC. \nIt costs camp money and resources to provide this program free of charge to the SLC community. In lieu of a fee\, we ask those who participate to please make a contribution to camp of an amount they see fit. An average gift of $36 per person makes the program financially viable. Special thanks to all those who choose to give more—your gifts help to enrich the lives of children at camp! \nAfter the service\, all guests are invited to join us for a bagel brunch in the Mainside dining room. \nIn the event of rainy weather\, the service will be moved indoors. \n \n \n\n	\n	\n	\n Spring Shabbat \n\n	\n	\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n Your Name (Guest #1)(Required)\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Address(Required) \n \n \n \n Street Address\n \n \n Address Line 2\n \n \n City\n \n AlabamaAlaskaAmerican SamoaArizonaArkansasCaliforniaColoradoConnecticutDelawareDistrict of ColumbiaFloridaGeorgiaGuamHawaiiIdahoIllinoisIndianaIowaKansasKentuckyLouisianaMaineMarylandMassachusettsMichiganMinnesotaMississippiMissouriMontanaNebraskaNevadaNew HampshireNew JerseyNew MexicoNew YorkNorth CarolinaNorth DakotaNorthern Mariana IslandsOhioOklahomaOregonPennsylvaniaPuerto RicoRhode IslandSouth CarolinaSouth DakotaTennesseeTexasUtahU.S. Virgin IslandsVermontVirginiaWashingtonWest VirginiaWisconsinWyomingArmed Forces AmericasArmed Forces EuropeArmed Forces Pacific\n State\n \n \n ZIP Code\n \n \n Your Email(Required)\n \n Your Phone(Required)How many additional guests will be attending with you? SUMMARY:Volunteer Day 2023
DESCRIPTION:A Day of Community\, Camaraderie\, and Fun!\n\nSpend a hard-working\, fun\, and fulfilling day getting camp cleaned up and beautifying our grounds in preparation for summer.  It’s a mitzvah! \nProjects include cleaning\, painting\, weeding\, spreading wood chips\, gardening\, and a wide range of projects designed to improve and beautify camp. \nAll you need to bring with you is a hat\, a water bottle\, sturdy shoes (no flip flops\, please!)\, a strong work ethic\, and your enthusiasm. Snacks and a bagel lunch with sides will be provided. All who stay until at least 2pm will receive a Volunteer Day t-shirt. \nChildren are welcome! We only ask that they work on the same project as their parents. Teens (13+) can either stay with their families or help out with the Teenside projects. Camp will provide a letter of community service for anyone in need of this. \nWe hope you will join us! SUMMARY:Super Bowl Squares Fundraiser 2023
DESCRIPTION:Help SLC and the Alumni Association send children to camp this summer by participating in our Super Bowl Squares box pool!\n\nThe entrance fee is $36 per box\, and you can buy as many boxes as you would like (first come first serve). The SLC Alumni Association will retain fifty percent of the cash pool\, which will be used to benefit the SLC Scholarship Fund. The remaining money will go to the winners\, as follows:\n\nEnd of game winner: $900**\n1st half winner: $450\n1st quarter winner: $225\n3rd quarter winner: $225\n\n**Please note that if the game goes to overtime\, the 4th quarter winner this year will receive $225 ($75 for the Ten Dollar Grid) while the end of game winner will receive $675 ($150 for the Ten Dollar Grid). We are enacting this change to avoid any confusion in case there is a second overtime. This is also how standard pools do it.**\n\nHow It Works:\n\nPeople participate by purchasing boxes on a 10 x 10 grid (boxes selected at random/we will not be honoring specific requests). Once you sign up and pay (below)\, your name will be written on a box in the grid. Once all boxes have been filled in\, the grid is labeled 0 through 9 in random order along the horizontal and vertical axis. These numbers correspond to score tallies for the two teams in the game. At the end of each quarter of the game\, whichever box corresponds to the trailing digit of the scores for each team wins a portion of the pot in the pool. For example\, at the end of the first half for the 1969 Super Bowl\, the New York Jets led the Baltimore Colts 7-0. If you had a 7 for the Jets and a 0 for the Colts\, you would have won the money for the first half.\n\nTo view the 2023 Super Bowl Squares grid click here

SUMMARY:Friends & Family Hike Day Fall 2022
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a wonderful fall day of hiking through the fall foliage with new and old friends back at SLC. \n\n\nSchedule \n\n\n9:00 – 9:45am: Check-in for all hikes \n\n\n10:00am SHARP: Hikes depart \n\n\nHike Choices \n\n\nFire Tower Plus: Led by Ranger Barry. This hike is the most strenuous of the four being offered and is wonderfully rewarding. Hikers will begin on the Mainside ballfield and immediately ascend uphill\, traveling to the Beacon Fire Tower and back to camp via the Ranger Barry Trail and the Breakneck Ridge Trail. At times you will be scurrying on hands and knees almost straight up some rock faces.  Please consider this hike only if you are a seasoned hiker and able to hike at least 20 minutes uphill without getting out of breath. \n\n\nBull Hill/Mt. Taurus: Led by Mike Tenenhaus and Jeff Berk.  Difficulty level is moderate to challenging\, including some inclines.  This is a good old-fashioned climb with several fantastic views and points of interest along the way.  This is a beautiful hike\, and provides choice views of Crow’s Nest and Storm King Mountain on the other side of the Hudson River. \n\n\nHinterlands: Led by Jason Hoffman. A classic SLC overnight location\, this hike begins with an immediate ascent and plateaus on a flat rock surface with views of the Hudson River.  This is a short but steep trail\, with moderate difficulty. \n\n\nCornish Discovery: Led by Gayle Doyle. Travel through Teenside and beyond to explore our historic Northgate ruins.  This hike is the least difficult of the four being offered\, with terrain ranging from rustic\, unleveled roads to mild inclines.  This is a great option for families with children. \n\n\nPlease Remember \n\n\n\nChildren under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.\nA brown-bag lunch and snacks are strongly suggested.\nAll participants must bring an ample supply of water and canteens/water bottles.\nDress in layers. It can be quite chilly in the morning\, and will likely warm up throughout the day.\nBring a camera for great photo opportunities!\n\n\n\nFor the safety of others\, NO dogs will be allowed at camp. \nThe fee for Friends and Family Hike Day is $25 per person or $100 per family.  All proceeds will benefit the Surprise Lake Camp Scholarship Fund!

Difficulty level is moderate. You will be climbing up a gradually elevated trail to reach a spectacularly scenic view of the Hudson River\, and\, if clear visibility\, views of NYC. You must be able to walk uphill for 20 minutes without getting out of breath for this hike. Approximate time hiking is 3 hours \nBreakneck Overlook Loop:  (10am) Led by Aliza Kline and Jeff Berk. This moderate hike has the glory of climbing Breakneck Ridge (this is the 4th peak of Breakneck) without actually climbing up the rock face.  We will take a scenic\, walk in the woods through Cornish\, climbing up the mountain towards this overlook\, loop around to Hudson Overlook\, and then come back down into camp.  Approximate time hiking is 3 hours.  You must be able to walk 20 minutes up an incline without getting short of breath in order to choose this hike.  \nFire Tower:  (10am) Led by Jason Hoffman and Mike Tenenhaus. This hike is the most strenuous of the four being offered and wonderfully rewarding.  Hikers begin on the mainside ballfield and immediately ascend uphill.  At times you will be scurrying on hands and knees almost straight up some rock faces.  Please consider this hike only if you are a seasoned hiker and able to hike at least 20 minutes uphill without getting out of breath. Approximate time hiking is 3 hours \nCornish Discovery: (11:30am) THIS HIKE IS FULL!  (please feel free to add your names in the notes field in the form below if you would like to be placed on the waitlist for this option) Led by Gayle Doyle and Seth Stein. SUMMARY:Super Bowl Squares Fundraiser 2021
DESCRIPTION:It’s a Super Bowl Box Pool to raise money for camp scholarships! \nTo view the 2021 Super Bowl Squares grid click here  \nAll $36 Squares have been sold out. We are now selling $10 boxes in a second grid \nThe SLC Alumni Association will retain fifty percent of the cash pool\, which will be used to support SLC scholarships. The remaining money will go to the winners. \n$10 Boxes – SOLD OUT  \nEnd of game winner**: $225\n1st half winner: $125\n1st quarter winner: $75\n3rd quarter winner: $75 \n**Please note that if the game goes to overtime\, the 4th quarter winner this year will receive $75 while the end of game winner will receive $150. We are enacting this change to avoid any confusion in case there is a second overtime. This is also how standard pools do it.** \n$36 Boxes -SOLD OUT\nEnd of game winner**: $900\n1st half winner: $450\n1st quarter winner: $225\n3rd quarter winner: $225 \n**Please note that if the game goes to overtime\, the 4th quarter winner this year will receive $225 while the end of game winner will receive $675. We are enacting this change to avoid any confusion in case there is a second overtime. This is also how standard pools do it.** \nHow It Works:\nPeople participate by purchasing boxes on a 10 x 10 grid (boxes selected at random). If you had a 7 for the Jets and a 0 for the Colts\, you would have won the money for the first half. \n\nTo view the 2021 Super Bowl Squares grid click here
