Summer 2021 Session 2 Decision

Dreaming of the summer months all year long? You're "Living 10 for 2!"

Summer 2021 Session Two Update

First, we want to thank you for your patience as we work to clarify our plans for Session Two for summer 2021. We have worked diligently with our staff and Board of Directors, as well as in close consultation with Dr. Laura Blaisdell, our public health consultant, to ensure that every camper and staff member remain safe and healthy while having the time of their life at Surprise Lake Camp.

Based on a variety of reasons (see below) we have made the determination, after exploring many different scenarios, that the safest and best path forward for the summer of 2021 is to have one arrival day (Thursday, July 1) with the option for campers to stay for half the summer (departing on July 25) or the full summer (departing on August 22).

This means that we will not have campers arrive on July 27th this summer.

Though we have already been in touch, we understand this decision may be a difficult one to hear. We are reserving spots for all families who are currently registered for Second Session. If you would like to switch to Session One or to Full Summer, please email Abbe, our Registrar ([email protected]) before our deadline on February 8th, and she will be happy to help you.

Our plan is to check in with you by phone in the next couple of days to further discuss our plans for the summer and answer any questions you have.

(Please note that many of our units are already close to capacity. After February 8, we can no longer guarantee a spot for your camper.)

We would like to take the opportunity to share more about how we arrived at this decision:

  • Having additional campers arrive in the middle of the summer presents a health and safety risk to the campers and staff who will be staying at Camp for the full summer.
  • We are doing everything we can to create the most amazing experience for our campers and our staff. All of the scenarios we explored in order to have campers arrive mid-summer presented significant disruptions and/or compromises to the overall camper experience and program.

We are continuing to develop thorough plans to minimize the chance that we will have COVID-19 at SLC, including restricting and closely monitoring the entry to or exit from Camp. More information about our updated health and safety plans can be found here.

Thank you for being part of the SLC family and trusting us to make these important decisions.

Though camp may look a bit different, we are looking forward to welcoming campers back to SLC for Summer 2021 – a much-needed summer of a lifetime!
