Timberline / Merrylane Weekly Update
It’s hard to believe this is our first week of the second session here at SLC! As some of our friends left for the summer, many of us stayed to continue with the fun. Before we combined into one boys unit (now living in Merrylane) both Timberline and the former Merrylane boys rocked it at the Annual SLC Sing competition. Every unit from the Guppies to the Upper Teens put on amazing performances (check out the videos here). Merrylane had a high-flying jam session to the music of Space Jam, with their own hoop for some free flying action. Timberline took a slightly different approach with a full unit choreographed number to the song Breaking Free from High School Musical. All clad in black, the unit brought down the house and Timberline was crowned 2021 SLC Sing Session One Champions.
After the performance, we enjoyed a slide show with pictures from the multitude of fun events, actives, and candid moments. Campers cheered each other on while hugs, smiles, and tears filled the Eddie Cantor Theater. Once we returned to the teen side of camp, we broke into units so the campers could spend their last evening with new and old friends. We arose early the next morning to send some friends off to their summer back home. We then launched into the second session. Our two units, now one, campers were able to start hanging out with new bunk mates and counselors as we moved into the Merrylane bunks.
On our first night of the session, we got a second visit from So Fun City. They proved to have a few tricks up their sleeves. Instead of a game show, they wowed us with a magic show. Campers also learned some slight of hand card tricks from these pros and were given cards of their own to keep the magic going. The next day included brand new specialty activities. Campers were able to choose a new specialty or continue along with the same from the first session. With choices from Waterfront (including windsurfing with Harry!), Culinary, Sports, Adventure, Drama, or Arts & Crafts, there is something for everyone. Later in the week we had a sunset pool party, a private screening of Marvel’s Black Widow, and a picnic BBQ along with Choice night on main side with all of camp.
If you haven’t already, please check out pictures of all these events and more posted daily on our website. With Zoom calls now behind us, you can still send a care package (if you haven’t already) with games and treats. Keep writing and sending emails to find out even more about their experience as we all work hard to make this a summer to remember.
