Volunteer Days are when our most dedicated campers, staff and alumni spend a day or two in camp to help get it ready for the summer after a long, cold winter. Projects include painting, spreading woodchips, gardening, weeding, brush clearing, and more! This is an excellent way to fulfill community service or mitzvah requirements for schools. Most important, Volunteer Day is fun and fulfilling, an inevitable byproduct of bringing so many warm and enthusiastic members of the Surprise Lake Camp and local community together. Projects usually occur over several weekend dates in the spring.
Ever wish you could come back and work at SLC? Does the idea sound appealing, but you just can’t get away for the entire summer? We have just the thing! SLC is looking for alumni that have special skills and talents in the areas of sports, arts, performance, science or technology and would be willing to volunteer to come up to camp and run special workshops for a day, two or even more! If you think you might be interested, or for more information, please email our Program Director, Laura.
We occasionally ask for volunteers to help Harry Vogel and the lifeguards assemble docks at the start of each summer. Please see the calendar on our home page to see when the first and second docks weekends are being held this year.
We always welcome additional help in our Manhattan office for various tasks including photocopying, assisting with mailings, answering phones, filing, organization, etc.
If you would like more information about any of the above volunteer opportunities, please call our office at (212) 924-3131. Thank you!
