Summits, Sports, and S’mores

Hike, Play Sports, Enjoy A Campfire . . . Choose one or all at this inaugural Spring event at SLC!

This new event combines elements of Spring Hike Day, our annual Kickball Tournament, and more!

Sunday, May 18 9:00am-3pm

The cost for Summits, Sports, & S’mores is $25 for SLC Alumni Association Members and $30 for non-members.

($100/$120 for families of 4 or more) All proceeds will benefit Surprise Lake Camp.

A light breakfast and s’mores will be provided.  Please bring your own bagged lunch/picnic food.

If you choose to hike, please arrive no later than 9:45am.  Hikes will begin promptly at 10am.

Schedule

9:00am: Check-in begins.  A light breakfast will be available until 10am.

10:00am: SHARP: Hikes begin

10:15am:  Beach Volleyball, Softball, Tetherball, Basketball, Lawn Games, Sandcastle Building (other activities may become available pending renovations/additions being done at camp)

11:15am:  Optional rotation to another activity

12:15pm:  Lunch by the Lake

1:00pm:  Kickball Tournament

2:00pm: Campfire, Singing, & S’mores

3:00pm: Nestling & Departure

Hike Choices:

Breakneck Overlook:  This hike has the glory of climbing Breakneck Ridge (this is the 4th peak of Breakneck) without actually climbing up the rock face.  We will take a scenic walk in the woods through Cornish, climbing up the mountain towards this overlook, loop around to Hudson Overlook, and then come back down into camp.  Approximate time hiking is 3 hours.  You must be able to walk 20 minutes up an incline without getting short of breath in order to choose this hike. 

Hinterlands:  Difficulty level is moderate.  Relatively short distance, although mostly inclines.  Great option for families with children.

Cornish/Northgate Ruins:  Explore the hauntingly beautiful collection of ruins called Northgate (or the Cornish Estate).  Difficulty level ranges from rustic, unleveled roads to mild inclines. This is also a great option for families with children.

Please Remember:

• All participants must register in advance (see the form below). If you have not registered in advance, you will not be allowed to enter Camp.
• Each family must fill out their own registration form. You may not register for another family.
• Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
• Buildings at Camp will be closed except for bathrooms and dining hall in the Main Building.
• No guests are permitted on Teenside (except Cornish hikers)
• Sorry, NO PETS are allowed at Camp.
• Please bring your own lunch, snacks, and drinks.
• Dress in layers. It can be quite chilly in the morning, and will likely warm up
  throughout the day.
• Bring a camera for great photo opportunities!
• In the unfortunate case of rain, this event will be cancelled and refunds will be issued.

  I, the undersigned, intending to be legally bound, hereby for myself, my heirs, executors, and administers waive and release any and all rights and claims for damages I may have against Surprise Lake Camp and all sponsors and their representatives for any and all injuries suffered by me (and anyone else in my party) in said event. I attest and verify that I am physically fit and am prepared for this event, and that my physical condition has been verified by a licensed medical doctor. I hereby grant full permission to use any photographs, recordings of any other record of this event for any legitimate purpose.
