Song and Lyrics List

We Had To Rush
By Paul Suchow

Adapted from traditional Gospel Song – Lonesome Valley

We had to rush, out of Egypt,
We had to rush, out hand in hand
On the bumpy, road to freedom,
Traveling to, The Promised Land

Now Moses was a Bible hero,
He was a prophet brave and true
Up against, an angry Pharoh.
He showed what faith, can do for you

We had to rush, out of Egypt,
We had to rush, out hand in hand
On the bumpy, road to freedom,
Traveling to, The Promised Land

And so you ask: “Why eat this matzah?
Why is this, a different night?
Why eat bitter herbs, in salt water?
And why do we dip, these veggies twice?

We had to rush, out of Egypt,
We had to rush out hand in hand
On the bumpy, road to freedom,
Traveling to, The Promised Land

And we will learn, so much this evening,
Bout’ the history, of the Jews
Now we must “Pass-over” this story.
We got to teach, our children too

We had to rush, out of Egypt,
We had to rush out hand in hand
On the bumpy, road to freedom,
Traveling to, The Promised Land

Moses Went To Free The Jews

Adapted By Paul Suchow from Amy Winehouse’s – “Rehab”

Moses went to free the Jews
But Pharaoh said “No, no, no”
G-d told him to go back and tell him
Let my people “Go, go go”

So many mountains still to climb
We lived with slavery all the time
Moses went to free the Jews
But Pharaoh said “No, no, no”

When Pharaoh woke up the next day
All the waters turned to blood – Oy Veh!
But there was nothing, nothing he could do
To stop each plague from coming true

And though Pharaoh refused to change his stance
Each time we tried to give him one more chance

Moses went to free the Jews
But Pharaoh said “ No, no, no”
G-d told him to go back and tell him
Let my people “Go, go, go”

The Kings’ heart was mighty rough
But guess who was just too tough?
Finally it came to pass
When Pharaoh said “Go, go, go”

After Blood, Frogs and Lice
Wild Animals, Pestilence, Boils and Ice
After Locusts, Darkness, their First Borns die
The evil king begins to see the light
What were the Jews thinking about that night?
Do we stay in this land or start a new life?

Moses led the Jews to freedom
When Pharaoh said go, go, go
Rushing to get out of Egypt
No time to rise the dough, dough, dough

Passover Time

(Lyrics P.Suchow, Music G. Gershwin)

Passover time
And the living ain’t easy
The Jews are working, working
As the bricks pile high

The Pharaoh’s mean
But our people won’t give in
So we’ll rush to get ready
And we won’t cry

One of these mornings
Miriam will rise up singing
And we’ll spread our wings
To cross the Red Sea

Till that morning
There ain’t nothing can harm us
With God and Moses
Standing by

Passover time
And the living ain’t easy
We’ll rush to get ready
With freedom in our eyes.
