To our Summer 2023 Families…

Dear SLC Family:

As we are sure you are aware, the health, safety, and security of all our campers and staff is always of the utmost importance to us. Even with COVID-19 cases declining, we are still preparing responsibly for this summer, since none of us know exactly what the next few months will bring. We continue to regularly monitor the current landscape and consult with the NYS and Putnam County Department of Health, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), our camp medical team and American Camp Association (ACA).

This letter is to make you aware of our summer 2023 COVID-19 requirements.

With a focus on the Jewish value of Pikuach Nefesh (sanctity of life), Surprise Lake Camp is  requiring  all campers  to have had a minimum of the initial COVID-19 vaccine series prior to attending camp this summer.  All staff members will be required to be “up to date” as defined by the CDC.

Although Surprise Lake Camp is not requiring boosters for our campers, we are, along with the CDC, still  advising that everyone stay “up to date” with vaccines and boosters. The CDC defines that as a person who has received all recommended COVID-19 vaccines, including any booster dose(s) when eligible.

While we aspire towards a “typical” summer, we expect some COVID-19 protocols may be present, which may include:

  • Testing prior to, on arrival, and/or during the camp session
  • Updated health center and screening procedures
  • Securing additional PPE, medications, and medical equipment
  • Masking indoors or in large congregate settings
  • Enhanced cleaning procedures
  • Reserving space at camp to allow for additional isolation facilities, if needed.

Thank you for partnering with us to maintain the safety of our camp community.

Please do not hesitate to be in touch if you have any questions.

Yours in Camping,

Adam Bendeson
