Volunteer
Volunteering makes a huge difference at Surprise Lake Camp. When you help, you sustain the best possible experience for campers and staff–and get to spend time at camp yourself. Your gift of time and energy gives you something, too: the chance to immerse yourself directly in the mission and success of this community and lifelong home.
To learn more about volunteering, please call Surprise Lake Camp at 845-265-3616 or join the SLC Volunteer Email List!
Regular opportunities include:
Volunteer Day
Join our most dedicated campers, staff, and alumni for a spring weekend day at camp to ready it for summer after the long, cold winter. Projects include painting, spreading wood chips, gardening, weeding, brush clearing, and more. If you are a teen or young adult, this is an excellent opportunity to fulfill community service or mitzvah requirements for school. Click the video below for a glimpse of Volunteer Day 2023:
Docks Installation Weekend
We occasionally ask for volunteers to help assemble docks at the start of each summer. Please email Sheryl, the Camp Director, if you are interested.
Summer Special-Guest Opportunities
What’s your superpower? Come enrich campers’ summers with your special skills and talents. Volunteer to run a special workshop in your area of expertise: sports, arts, performance, science, technology, or beyond. If you’ve ever wished you could work at camp but can’t get away for a whole summer, this is your perfect opportunity. Workshops can run a day, two days, or longer. To discuss the possibilities, please contact our Program Director.
