COVID-19 Update

Summer 2023

The health, safety, and security of our campers and staff is of the utmost importance. Even with COVID-19 cases declining, we are preparing responsibly for Summer 2023, since none of us know what the upcoming months will bring. We continue to regularly monitor the current landscape and consult with the NYS and Putnam County Departments of Health, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC),  the American Camp Association (ACA) —  and our camp medical team.

With a focus on the Jewish value of Pikuach Nefesh (sanctity of life), Surprise Lake Camp is requiring the following for Summer 2023:

  • All campers will have a minimum of the initial COVID-19 vaccine series prior to attending camp.
  • All staff members will be “up to date” with vaccines and boosters as defined by the CDC.

Although Surprise Lake Camp is not requiring boosters for our campers, we are, along with the CDC, still advising that everyone stay “up to date” with vaccines and boosters. The CDC defines that as a person who has received all recommended COVID-19 vaccines, including any booster dose(s) when eligible.
